Who Were DP Racing?

• DP (Derek & Paul) Racing was a small British BMX brand from the early 1980s.

• They were best known for their DP Firebird Freestyler, one of the most famous UK freestyle BMX bikes of the era.

• Handmade in the UK, their bikes were high quality but had limited production, making them rare and highly collectible today.

Was DP Racing Any Good?

Yes! Their bikes were lightweight, well-built, and designed for serious BMX riders.
Freestyle-Specific Design – The Firebird Freestyler had a reinforced frame, great for tricks and stunts.
UK-Made – Unlike mass-produced bikes from the USA, DP bikes had a bit of a handcrafted feel.

Many riders in the UK BMX freestyle scene used DP bikes, competing against big names like Raleigh, GT, and Haro.

DP Firebird Freestyler – The most famous model, built for freestyle riding.
DP Firebird Delta II – A slightly refined version of the original Firebird.
DP GL Plus – A race bike, but DP was always more famous for freestyle.

Why Did DP Racing Disappear?

By the late 1980s, the BMX market had changed. Bigger brands like GT, Haro, and Skyway dominated, and DP couldn’t keep up. They eventually faded away, but their bikes remain highly collectible today.
