Gordy Records was a subsidiary label of Motown Records, founded in 1962 and named after Motown's founder, Berry Gordy, originally known as Miracle Records. It was a prominent label for mainstream R&B/soul music, featuring artists like The Temptations, Martha and the Vandellas, and Edwin Starr.
Gordy Records was established in 1962 as a successor to the Miracle Records label, and the name was changed to avoid confusion with the singing group, The Miracles.
Some of the most notable artists signed to Gordy Records included The Temptations, Martha and the Vandellas, Edwin Starr, Bobby Taylor, Rick James, Luther Allison, the Undisputed Truth, High Inergy, and Tina Marie.
Motown Subsidiary:
Gordy Records, along with Tamla and Motown, was one of the "big three" Motown labels. The label was merged with Motown in 1988.
