The Raleigh Grifter was a popular children's bike produced by Raleigh in the UK from 1976 to 1983. It was designed as a middle-ground between the Raleigh Chopper (a stylish but less practical bike) and a BMX, which was becoming popular at the time.

Chunky Frame & Styling – It had a tough, motorbike-inspired design with a crossbar pad and beefy frame.

Balloon Tyres – Thick, knobbly tyres that made it feel rugged and ready for off-road use.

Twist-Grip Gears – It had a Sturmey-Archer 3-speed hub with a twist-grip shifter, giving it a unique motorbike-like feel.

Heavyweight – It was much heavier than later BMX bikes, which made it solid but not the easiest to ride fast or do tricks.

Colours & Models – The original versions came in blue or red, with a Mk2 version later available in black with red decals.
The Grifter was well-loved by kids in the late '70s and early '80s, especially for its "motorbike feel", but when BMX bikes became mainstream in the early '80s, they largely replaced the Grifter due to their lighter weight and better stunt capabilities.
